You may be interested to know that I received a very aggressive sales phone call today from a brojker who said he represented Laidlaw's, based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA. (Telephone 0019545859017). He said his firm also had offices in the UK.
He tried to persuade me to buy shares in a pharmaceutical company SQNM which is about to release a new drug called Sequenam. He promised returns of around 40% but wanted instant purchase and promised a return of capital in 90 days if his predictions did not materialise. I declined on the basis that anything that sounds too good to be true usually is.
I suspect this broker is the "rogue" you refer to and I thought you would like to know of his current activities.

Industrial materials are much broader than "construction" and I hope there is still growth in this area- particularly with developing nations and even the misguided govt "flight" to infrastructure spending in the USA. Good article.

It is not "cheap" labor but less expensive labor costs, especially benefit costs. This country is reducing total labor costs in manufacturing especially on the benfit side, i.e. Japanese companies increasingly producing in this country, and that will incrasingly bring home more manufacturing. Unionization is also down which helps as we compete globally.

While manufacturing jobs may start a comeback in USA, labor costs are still only 25-30% and many emerging countries have other huge advantages, inclduing corporate income tax rates.

Hi there. I found your blog through a link from Matt Abar's WealthFly site. You have excellent investment-oriented content.
I would suggest modifying the title of your RSS feed, as it shows up as "Commentary/Blog" in my reader. Perhaps "The Laidlaw Group Blog" would be more appropriate.
Thanks!
Bill
http://www.fppad.com
